This is slow fashion by design. Thoughtfully made, locally produced, and intentionally imperfect pieces meant to be used, loved, and lived in.
The Velvet Needle
Sustainability is at the core of every piece. By upcycling reclaimed textiles and producing in small batches, I’m able to reduce waste while creating items that are truly one of a kind. Working with existing materials means no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. Imperfections are part of the story. Slight variations in fabric, stitching, or texture are a reminder that each piece was made by someone whos heart pumps blood and lungs breathe air. These details give every item its own character and history.
Hi, I’m Elyssa, the maker behind The Velvet Needle.
I’m a self-taught sewist who learned by trying, problem-solving, and letting curiosity lead the way. I’ve always loved thrifting and searching for materials with character, and potential. Finding something and imagining what it could become is where the creative process begins for me.
As I create, I continue to learn and evolve with every piece. The Velvet Needle is as much about growth as it is about craftsmanship, refining techniques, and allowing each project to inform the next.
Everything I make is sewn locally in small batches, with care, intention, and respect for the materials I’m working with. I believe that fashion doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful, it just needs to be thoughtfully made.
thanks for being here
xx
